Independent Shoot Photo Genres
Independent Shoot Photo Genres
Outline:
For this shoot I am going to use multiple models and put masking tape over their mouths and put a mean comment they have been received and take another photo afterwards of them being confident with the comment gone and them not caring about it. I am going to use the studio to complete these shoots and use a black and white background for the two different poses. I am going to use the black background for when they have their mouth covered up and the white background for when they are being positive and happy.
- I am hoping to complete this in today's lesson (24/01/19).
- I am hoping to do extra photos over the weekend to help my portfolio

For my portfolio, I wanted to take an empowerment approach towards photo genres using portraiture. I have seen this done a few times before by other artists and I felt inspired by their work. However I wanted to experiment with their idea and develop it further with my own ideas. I decided to use different locations to help me portray the different between the dark and light shoots. I did most of my shoot in the studio but I also did a location one as well to help me develop my idea further and experiment with different settings.
I like how I've used the dark back drop in the studio to help emphasise how she is being called a negative name that really gets to her and helps set the overall mood to be negative and depressing. In my opinion the dark back drop with the single focused light helps create tension in the photo and makes it seem more interesting.
I like how I've used the light back drop in the studio because it makes the overall photo seem more uplifting and positive compared to the dark shoot. This helps create the impression that they do not care what you call them because the are comfortable and confident in their own skin. Therefore, creating an empowerment idea and how others should feel confident and strong as well.

When I was doing this shoot, I used my Canon 600D camera with a EPS 18-55 Canon lens. Due to being in the studio, I had two studio set up. In both of them, I had two light boxes, but for the dark shoot I used a snoop, and a black or white back drop. To measure my settings I used a light metre to make sure I had the correct exposure and I was able to see the model when taking the photos. I had my ISO set to 200 because of the lights and I had the shutter speed set to 1/125. My aperture was set to 8.0 for my light and dark shoot. When I did a shoot outside, I had my ISO set to 400 due to cloud cover and I had my aperture set to 11.0 so I could allow more light into the lens.
Manipulating my photos
AO1
I developed my ideas for this shoot by going to a different location outside and taking photos in dark gloomy places and lighter areas. This helped me experiment with different techniques using my setting and location by finding areas which seem gloomy which I could use for a dark and depressing shot and finding somewhere which seems more colourful and bright so i could take positive pictures. I developed my idea further from other photographers work that I have seen by using different locations for my shoots and have a before and after shot so we can see the models transformation, in my opinion, that makes the photo seem more empowering.

My intentions for my photos was to create a strong contrast between two shoots of one being positive and the other being negative, creating and empowerment feeling. To make this more personal towards me and the models themselves, I asked them to choose their own word on what someone was called them in the past which really affected them. By asking them to choose their own words it causes them to feel the pain more emotionally for when i'm taking the photos. Also, I decided to put the tape over their mouth to create the affect that they cant do speak back or do anything to change these labels that people have given them.
