For my independent shoot three I still wanted to use the same research artist as before (Imogen Cunningham) but I want to change my view of nature and pull away from flowers and explore a different type of nature. Therefore, I decided to go to a forest near where I live to take pictures of the trees and the different scenery around.

Best Images

I like this photo because I like how the sun is showing through the leaves and branches which then lights up the leaves even more. Also, I like how you can still see the sky through the branches which just fills up the frame a bit more.

I like how this photo seems to go on forever in the distance because of the different trees you can see in the background. Also, I like how this photo has a lot of tone in it due the the sun only reaching part way through to forest.

I like how the yellow leaves contrast the blue sky in the background to create an interesting affect. Also, I like how some of the leaves are in focused when the others are slightly blurred out to make the photo seem less busy and crowded.

I like how the sun is illuminating the different leaves so you are able to see more colour and tone on them. Also, I like how the sun is slightly off centres and looks like it is shining through towards the centre of the frame.

I like how the branches in the front are in focus when everything else in the background is slightly blurred out to help emphasise them. Also, I like how the berries have some tone to them to help them stand out slightly which I can later emphasise in Photoshop
Images that require improvement

I do not like this photo because it looks very plain and boring, also, the leaves at the bottom of the frame makes the photo seem more busy.

This photo is too overly exposed because I had my rapture set too high to take a photo involving the sun. To avoid this again, I would have to double check my settings using my exposure dial.

This photo is too under exposed because the tree and leaves blocked out too much light, therefore, I would of had to increase my aperture to allow more light to be let into the lens

I wanted to capture the formal elements through nature in a slightly different way to what I've done before to show how I can expand from taking pictures of flowers into different types of nature. I decided to do this by taking pictures of a forest and other scenes around. I still did this inspired by my artist by still taking some close up images of certain objects and experimenting with different angles.
My first best image helps support this because I tried using a different angle by looking directly upwards and taking a picture of the leaves/ branched above and changing my position slightly so I was able to get the sun coming through the leaves.
AO2
Throughout this whole shoot I had to keep manipulating my settings to make sure I had the correct exposure for the photo that I wanted. For example, when I was taking a picture of the sun through the trees I had to change my aperture to a lower number (2.8) so less light would come into the image so I could still see the leaves in the picture instead of the photo becoming overly exposed.
Manipulating my photos

AO1
My research artist for my portfolio is Imogen Cunningham and she helped me come up with multiple ideas by focusing on nature and experimenting with different angles to create interesting and unique photos. In previous shoots I took pictures of flowers which is what Imogen Cunningham takes pictures of but for this shoot I wanted to experiment with different types of nature to represent my wide thinking. Therefore, I went out to a forest and took pictures of the trees and scene around my using multiple different angles to get interesting photos.
AO4
My intentions for these photos was to represent how nature can come in multiple shapes and form, also, how not all of nature has bright bold colours like the flowers do in my previous shoot. When I took them into photoshop I used burning and dodging to help emphasise the light and dark areas in the photo to make the over all feel seem more mysterious and foreboding.

I like these photos because I've stepped away from flowers and have developed my ideas further to help portray the formal elements. This shows how I have expanded my thinking and I've experimented with different scenery, therefore giving me a wide variety of photos. To develop this further, I could of converted some of the pictures into black and white to show that I've experimented with different techniques in Photoshop to produce a final image and show how I have a broad understanding. By doing this, I will show that I can experiment with different techniques and have different outcomes and not have photos that look similar to each other.
